Summary:

A survey on climate protection measures in practices was carried out between October 2020 and February 2021. How do medical doctors rate the potential in the outpatient area to cut emissions, in which fields solutions are lacking?

As MDs working in the outpatient sector are continuously in touch with their patients, they reach out to all areas of society and are therefore multiplicators. Opportunities for action range from direct climate protection measures in practices, educational work on climate change and health among patients, and advice on climate-friendly and simultaneously health-promoting life styles. This study intends to generate baseline data on climate protection in German outpatient health care.

The initiators of this project, Marlene Thöne and Nikolaus Mezger, are doing research on sustainable transformation of health care. The study is supported by the Federal Environmental Agency, the Virchowbund, the Marburger Bund section Hamburg and the German Alliance on Climate Change and Health (KLUG).
